October has been a dark month for motorspot, with the IndyCar Dan Wheldon death on the 16th of October and the MotoGP Marco Simoncelli death on the 23rd of October. Dan Wheldon was an English racer at 33 years old and Marco Simoncelli was an Italian racer at just 24 years old. Many questions will be raised surrounding the safety of motorsport. With MotoGP, there has been 25 fatalties in this particular sport. Before the Marco Simoncelli death, Shoya Tomizawa died in 2010, but before that it was Daijiro Kato who died stretching back to 2003. Racing motorbikes is clearly dangerous and there will be unfortunate accidents that do happen, but MotoGP safety is as prominent as it ever has been, the problem with the Marco Simoncelli crash was simply that the helmet came off in this gruesome accident. Little could be done by the following two riders to collide with Marco.
